There were a number of different materials I could have chosen for this project including polycarbonate. However, although I had some idea of what I was doing, I needed the flexibility to experiment. It is for this reason I chose MDF for this project.
I constructed the tube in three sections; two that make up the main part of the tube and the third section which holds the primary mirror and collimation mechanism. The collimation mechinism is a simple bolt/spring/butterfly nut set up. I will provide more detials of this at a later stage.
The above pictures show two sections that slot together and how they fit within the box.
