Newtonian Telescope/Dobsonian Mount

Introduction

Newtonian Telescope/Dobsonian Mount

My daughter was interested in astronomy and to encourage that interest I decided to have a go at building a telescope. I soon realised that the learning curve was reasonably steep and that there was more to telescopes than meets the eye.

There are many excellent websites on telescope making. However, the more I studied, the more I began to impose my own constraints on design. Many of the designs available were large and bulky (albeit excellent). I wanted something that could be self contained in some way - basically so that everything collapses down into a box that can be easily handled and stored away when not in use. The following pages illustrate what I came up with.

I still have to finish the mirror and spider assembly and a set of drawings. As such, I will update this section when that has been completed.
